Accra, March 5, GNA - The University for Development Studies (UDS) has began a medical programme suited for varied socio-economic settings, Professor Kaku Sagary Noko, Acting Vice Chancellor said on Friday.
He said the Problem Based Learning (PBL) pedagogy was introduced in September 2006 after almost 10 years of planning, with the last two years being more intense with training and retraining of academic staff and tutorial fellows.

Dr George Amofa, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), on Friday urged parents to ensure that their children below six years are given polio immunisation during the national exercise.
He said Polio was a life long devastating disease, hence the partnership between the GHS, World Health Organisation and UNICEF to immunise children each year to boost their immune system.

Tema, March 5, GNA - The Tema Health Directorate has targeted about 74,332 children, aged below five years, to be immunized against Polio, during the first phase of this year's nationwide Polio Immunization Campaign.
The first of the four rounds campaign would start on Friday, March 5 and end on Sunday March 7.

Wa, March 5, GNA - The government has supplied 70,525 doses of meningitis W135 vaccines to the Upper West Region to vaccinate people in the Jirapa District.
The vaccines were airlifted from Accra to Wa and would be distributed to health facilities to deal with the meningitis in the district.

The exercise organised by Syband, a health promotion Non Governmental Organization, screened a total 3,633 food vendors in the Kwahu West Municipality for the past one month.

Reserves for the sustenance of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) could be depleted by 2016 without the introduction of the one-time premium payment, the Ministry of Health has indicated.
According to the Deputy Minister of Health, Mr Rojo Mettle-Nunoo, an actuarial analysis indicated that the NHIS, in its present structure, would experience a negative balance this year when the expenditure is expected to exceed revenue.

Takoradi, March 4, GNA - About 532,147 children below five years, in the Western Region, are expected to be immunized during this year's Poliomyelitis (Polio) immunization exercise.
A team of 2,150 personnel, 4300 volunteers and 430 supervisors has been mobilized to start the programme that would be implemented in two phases: from 5 March to 7 March and from 23 April to 25 April, this year.

Accra, March 4, GNA - The Parliamentary Committee on Health, on Wednesday donated GH¢10,000 to the Mamobi Polyclinic for the improvement of facilities there.
Dr Mustapha Ahmed, chairman of the Committee, presenting the money, when its members toured the clinic on Wednesday, said it was the widow's might of the group to the health facility and called on its management to use it judiciously.

Accra, March 4, GNA - Dr. Julius Tsidi, a medical officer at the Maternity Unit of the Tema General Hospital, on Wednesday said Ghana was ill-prepared for the free antenatal care for pregnant women.
He said currently, facilities at the unit were stretched to lamentable degree as the number of pregnant women seeking medical care doubled without the expansion of facilities.
